I am writing this after a less that 24-hour down time switching web hosts (for the third time in 2 years).  This has been the most seamless transition yet.  It turns out that customer support is the single most important thing to have when considering a hosting company.

I guess now is as good a time as any to plug the new company I'm with... Paladin Business Solutions

Now, on to other stuff.  I realize that I haven't made a blog post for quite some time.  I'm writing this one now because even I am beginning to wonder what this "geckoWARE" company has been up to for the last 6 months.

I have had a cold all week.  It hasn't been terrible, but it has been bad enough to make it really hard to concentrate.  The funny thing is that even though I work for myself, I haven't just taken a day off to recover.  If I worked for someone else, I would have called in sick, slept all day for two days, and been right as rain by now.

North Americans need to get it through their heads (myself included in that blanket statement) that quite often, taking time off will improve productivity overall because we will be more alert when we come back to work.  I believe that this is true so now I just have to force myself to put it into action.  I'll have a nap this afternoon and see how things go.

I've taken the plunge.  In the ever-evolving world of web design, it seems like there is always something newer or better out there to learn.  I have always been a bit slow on the uptake of cutting edge things because I would rather be really good at something that is a bit on the old site, than semi-competant using something that is brand new.  However, it is now time for me to learn Ruby on Rails.

I'm sure there is lots to learn, and I'll try to keep my great epiphanies recorded here both for myself, and anyone else who wants to learn from my mistakes.

I was watching Larry King Live last night.  It was a repeat from the October 9th, 2006 show.  This show featured Donald Trump.  It was very interesting and informative.  I had never seen a real interview with Mr. Trump, and the thing that stuck me the most is that "the Donald" likes to talk about himself a lot.  Obviously, this method has worked exceptionally well for him.  I guess that's why people have blogs.  We expose ourselves to the world, and through in our name a few times (Ian Morse) so that we'll appear in google somewhere.

Something else that surprised me a bit is that Donald Trump has a blog!  You can get to it here: http://donaldtrump.trumpuniversity.com/

I think that is great.  From a web programmer's perspective, telling clients that they need to make their sites more interactive, or make their companies more transparent, this is gold.  One of the most successful business men in the world has given his seal of approval on this technology.  So I guess what I'm saying is, thanks for the endorsement Mr. Trump, and if you're ever looking for a web programmer, let me know.
